Daegu City to Close Livestock Wholesale Market in April Next Year... "Facilities Aged and Function Lost"

Daegu City, the only administrative agency in the country owning the Daegu Livestock Wholesale Market, announced on the 8th the closure of the livestock wholesale market scheduled for April 1 next year.

The Daegu Livestock Wholesale Market has lost its public function due to a continuous decrease in slaughter volume, safety issues caused by aging facilities, and significantly increased repair costs. Therefore, from March to July, a research project on the "Feasibility of Closing the Daegu Livestock Wholesale Market and Utilization Plan for the After-Use Site" was conducted, and the result confirmed that "closure" is appropriate.

Accordingly, after the designated period expires, the livestock wholesale market will be closed on April 1 next year, and the after-use site will be provided as a depot for Urban Railway Line 4 to promote convenience for citizens and maximize the public use of administrative property.

A Daegu City official stated, "After the closure of the livestock wholesale market, livestock slaughtering is expected to be available at slaughterhouses in Gunwi, Daegu City, or Goryeong, Gyeongbuk."
