LIV Golf Promotion Tournament 3R Advancement Failure
Ham Jung-woo, Lee Jung-hwan, Go Gun-taek, Jung Chan-min, and Others Eliminated
Korean players all faced defeat.
Ham Jeong-woo, the Genesis Award winner of the 2023 season of the Korean Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Korean Tour, finished tied for 22nd place (2-under 70) in the second round of the LIV Golf Promotion Tournament (total prize money $1.5 million) held on the 9th (local time) at Abu Dhabi Golf Club (par 72, 7,632 yards) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), resulting in a 'cut off.' Lee Jeong-hwan also joined this group and failed to advance to the third round. Only the top 20 players after the second round can proceed to the third round in this tournament, which grants LIV Golf participation rights for next season to the top three players.
This year’s top winner with three victories, Ko Gun-taek, the 'long hitter' Jeong Chan-min with two wins, veteran Kang Kyung-nam with 11 career wins, and Kim Bi-o, who has nine wins on domestic and international tours, also missed out on the ticket. Moon Kyung-jun, Lee Tae-hee, and Eom Jae-woong also returned empty-handed.
The tournament is played as a 72-hole stroke play. Up to the tied 20th place after the first round advance to the second round, where scores are 'reset' and they compete against players who directly enter the second round. Players who finish within the tied 20th place after the second round will have their scores reset again on the final day and play a 36-hole competition.
