Jindo-gun Selects First Hero of 'Our Neighborhood Heroes'

Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do is promoting the national merit recognition improvement project “Our Neighborhood Heroes” together with youth.

“Our Neighborhood Heroes” is a project aimed at re-examining the heroes who protected the Republic of Korea through the sacrifice and dedication of national merit recipients and their families.

The county selected Mr. Kim Dong-myeong (93 years old, Jindo-eup) as the first hero and is producing a video in which local youth directly visit the elder to interview him about his experiences in the Korean War and the messages he wants to convey.

The student reporting team from Seokgyo Middle School, covering “Our Neighborhood Heroes,” continued their interviews on topics such as △memorable incidents during the war △stories they want to share with future generations of students △and messages of hope for those still suffering from war.

Based on the interviews conducted that day, a video will be produced and posted on Jindo-gun’s official YouTube channel and social networking services (SNS) in December.

A representative from the Jindo-gun Resident Welfare Division said, “We have created an opportunity for youth to actively participate in spreading the culture of honoring national merit recipients and their families by informing local residents about them. We will continue to do our best to discover our neighborhood heroes every month and create an environment where national merit recipients who sacrificed and dedicated themselves to the country are properly honored.”
