Anyone Can Attend at 3 PM on the 11th at BEXCO Without Prior Registration
Busan City will hold the "43rd Busan Spatial Forum" at 3 p.m. on the 11th in the conference room on the 2nd floor of BEXCO Exhibition Hall 1.
The Busan Spatial Forum, launched in 2007, has been addressing and publicizing issues related to Busan's architectural challenges by engaging industry, academia, research, and government sectors, while communicating with citizens.
The forum is hosted by the city and jointly organized by the Busan International Architecture Festival Organizing Committee (Executive Chairman Lee Seong-ho) and the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Branch of the Korean Institute of Architects (Chairman Lee Sang-jin).
Since 2007, it has been held to create a platform for discourse where experts and citizens gather to discuss major urban architectural issues.
This year, two forums are planned in total, with the first successfully held in September under the theme "Integrated Urban Architecture Plan."
This forum will focus on "Attitudes and Strategies in the Climate Crisis: Possibilities and Limits of Anthropocene Architecture," where experts from industry and academia will gather to present and discuss sustainable architecture responding to the changing environment.
The Anthropocene is a term proposed by Dutch chemist Paul J. Crutzen and biologist Eugene F. Stoermer, referring to an unprecedented new geological epoch in Earth's history where human influence has grown to rival natural forces (Park Beom-soon, 2019).
▲ SUPA Song Schweitzer, co-CEO, will deliver the first presentation on "Social Sustainability: The Essence of Anthropocene Architecture," and ▲ Professor Baek Seung-han of the Department of Architecture at Pusan National University will give the second presentation on "Anthropocene Architecture: Theory and Cases."
Following the keynote speeches, ▲ Professor Yang Geon-seok of Dong-A University’s Department of Landscape Architecture and ▲ Ha Young-sang, Master of the Urban Solutions Team at Samwoo Architects & Engineers who worked on the concept design and master plan for "Oceanix Busan," will engage in a panel discussion. The session will be chaired by ▲ Lee Han-seok, Director of the Sangji Architecture Research Institute.
Any citizens interested in the forum can attend on-site without prior registration.

Kim Bong-cheol, Director of the Architecture and Housing Bureau, stated, "We hope this forum will serve as an opportunity to reconsider environmental issues caused by humans," adding, "We will continue to contemplate and strive for sustainable architecture that harmoniously blends humans, nature, and society."
