Busan City and the Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency will hold the “2nd Busan Quantum Frontier Forum” on the 20th at 2 p.m. at the Busan Esports Stadium, together with the Busan Quantum Information Technology Advisory Committee (Chairman: Kim Jae-wan, Distinguished Professor at the Institute for Basic Science).
This forum was planned to create a foundation for the quantum information technology ecosystem by providing a venue for information exchange and discussing linkage plans between quantum information technology and other industries through expert lectures and case presentations utilizing quantum information technology.
The forum will proceed in the order of expert lectures, panel discussions, and Q&A sessions.
In the expert lectures, case presentations will be given sequentially on the following topics: ▲Policy directions for quantum information technology in South Korea (Woo Myung-soon, Director at the Ministry of Science and ICT) ▲Understanding quantum information technology and use cases of quantum computers (Lee Soon-chil, Director at the National Research Foundation of Korea) ▲Quantum advantage in core anticancer drug development (Woo Sang-wook, CEO of PharmCAD) ▲Development of quantum computing-based eco-friendly material design simulation technology (Dr. Lee Hong-woo, POSCO Holdings) ▲Quantum sensing (LiDAR) demonstration at Gamcheon Port, Busan (Kim Tae-woong, Manager at SKT) ▲Subscription-based quantum cryptography communication service (Maeng Joo-hwan, Manager at SKT).
Following this, a panel discussion on the topic “Linkage plans between Busan’s quantum information technology and other industries” will be held. The session will be moderated by Kim Jae-wan, Chairman of the Busan Quantum Information Technology Advisory Committee and President of the Korean Quantum Information Society, Institute for Basic Science. The six invited lecturers, along with Professor Moon Han-seop of Pusan National University and Professor Bae Jun-woo of KAIST, will discuss the topic, followed by a Q&A session with participants.
Participation in the forum is free, and anyone interested can join through online pre-registration or on-site registration on the day of the event.
Busan City is focusing on promoting related projects to establish a quantum information technology ecosystem, which is called a game changer for future industries, including ▲planning national projects such as participation in the Ministry of Science and ICT’s quantum computing public projects ▲operating quantum graduate schools at Pusan National University and Pukyong National University (starting in 2024) ▲supporting talent development through cooperation with specialized institutions such as the City Office of Education and IBM ▲establishing global networking and industrial promotion strategies for quantum information technology.
The holding of this forum is also part of these efforts to establish a quantum information technology ecosystem.
Shin Chang-ho, Director of the Digital Economy Innovation Office of Busan City, said, “Through this forum, we hope to share various cases utilizing quantum information technology and increase the number of leading companies that want to integrate quantum information technology into traditional industries.” He added, “Ultimately, we hope this forum will serve as an opportunity to spread quantum information technology throughout the industrial ecosystem.”
