Yongin City Installs 'Boarding and Alighting Bays' for Yongin High School Commuter Vehicles

Expectations for Reduction in Safety Accidents and Resolution of Vehicle Congestion

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 8th that it has completed the installation of a 'boarding and alighting bay' near Yongin High School in Yeokbuk-dong, Cheoin-gu, where students can get on and off school commute vehicles.

The boarding and alighting bay was constructed within Yeokbuk Small Park near Yongin High School, measuring 82 meters in length. A budget of 180 million KRW was invested in the installation of the bay.

With the installation of this boarding and alighting bay, traffic congestion in front of the main gate of Yongin High School during school start times is expected to be alleviated.

The construction of the Yongin High School boarding and alighting bay was a commitment made by Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin City during a special lecture in July, after hearing safety complaints from students and parents regarding the school commute. At that time, students and parents raised concerns about student safety due to the concentration of commuting vehicles and employee cars on the road in front of the school’s main gate, and requested Mayor Lee to devise countermeasures.

A Yongin City official stated, "Using the boarding and alighting bay will disperse the traffic volume that used to concentrate only in front of the main gate, thereby resolving congestion," and added, "We will continue to strive to create a safe commuting environment for students."
