Chungnam Province's 2.8 Trillion Won Port Development 'Blueprint'... "Requesting Reflection by Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries"

Chungnam Province has identified a port development project worth 2.8 trillion won and requested the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to include it in the basic port plan.

On the 8th, Chungnam Province announced that it submitted a request to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to reflect development projects for four ports in five cities and counties in the basic port plan.

The scale of the port development projects included in the request is tentatively 2.8779 trillion won. The basic port plan is a statutory plan established every 10 years for the efficient development, management, and operation of ports. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is currently preparing a revised basic port plan for 31 ports nationwide. The revision is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

Prior to submitting the request, since August, Chungnam Province held two expert advisory meetings to reflect port-related projects within Chungnam in the basic port plan, conducted demand surveys with cities, counties, and development corporations, and identified 17 projects across four ports including Dangjin Port.

First, Chungnam Province plans to promote the "Urgent Projects for Improving Logistics at Dangjin Port" linked to the construction of the Bay Valley Mega City.

The main projects include ▲construction of a new hydrogen (ammonia) wharf at Dangjin Port ▲development of a new general cargo wharf ▲development of a new grain wharf ▲creation of a port hinterland complex ▲construction of waterfront facilities in Sinpyeong ▲development of Asan Port (trade port) ▲change of port district names (changing the port boundary name from Seonggumi-ri to Gagok-ri).

The Daesan Port development project focuses on efficient use of port facility sites and securing additional land. Detailed projects include ▲construction of Daesan Port Pier 6 (container and general cargo) ▲creation of port facility land on the east side of Seosan Daesan Port ▲plan for mixed use (coal and ammonia) of Dangjin Port Pier 1 ▲dual operation of the passenger pier as an international cruise pier ▲improvement of container ship berthing capacity at Pier 5 ▲utilization of the hinterland of Pier 5 ▲promotion of the Imhang road construction project.

Janghang Port has identified projects to expand mooring and functional facilities, and Boryeong Port has identified a project to widen the navigation channel within the port boundary.

Chungnam Province submitted the request for port-specific development projects to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries last month and plans to cooperate with cities and counties to identify additional urgent projects and assist with related administrative procedures such as the Ministry’s request and strategic environmental impact assessment in the first half of next year.

No Taehyun, Director of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau of Chungnam Province, said, “Dangjin Port will be developed as a central axis for the Bay Valley Mega City construction, a pledge of the 8th local government administration,” and added, “We will focus administrative efforts to grow the province’s ports into key logistics ports in the future central region.”
