China, which recently suspended customs clearance for industrial urea exports to South Korea, emphasized on the 7th that its urea export volume this year has increased compared to the previous year.
He Yadong, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, said at a briefing that "China is a major producer and consumer of urea," adding, "Based on ensuring domestic demand, we export millions of tons to the international market every year." He continued, "From January to October this year, the total urea exported was 3.43 million tons, a 65% increase compared to the same period last year."
He also added, "The relevant departments of China and South Korea are maintaining communication on this matter."
Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also addressed concerns about urea export controls at a regular briefing the day before, stating, "China is an important participant in the chemical fertilizer trade," and "From January to October, China's chemical fertilizer exports reached 25.72 million tons, a 28.8% increase compared to the same period last year."
