Park Seong-geun, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, announced on the 7th that he has tendered his resignation to run in the general election next April.
On the same day, Park told reporters at the Government Complex Sejong, "I expressed my intention to resign about a month ago to run in the general election, and it seems it will be accepted soon," adding, "After serving in the prosecution and then at the Prime Minister's Office, I will have a new opportunity to use what I have learned for the country in other areas."
Park is expected to run in the Yeongdo district of Busan. After ending his career as a prosecutor in 2020 and working as a lawyer, Park joined the Yoon Seok-yeol government transition committee and then served as a vice minister-level chief secretary assisting Prime Minister Han Deok-su.
Prime Minister Han said of Park, "At first, there were concerns about a chief secretary with a background as a prosecutor, but Park is truly an excellent person who did very well," adding, "Among the various aides I have had so far, Park's assistance has been the most satisfactory and helpful."
