Topco Media and Topco's global market expansion is rapidly progressing. On the 7th, Topco Media announced that as of the end of November this year, the monthly active users (MAU) of 'TopToon Japan' surpassed 330,000. This represents an increase of approximately 299% compared to the beginning of the year. TopToon Japan is a webtoon platform operated by Topco Media's subsidiary, 'Topco Japan.'
TopToon Japan has accelerated growth not only in quality but also quantitatively. During the same period, the cumulative number of subscribers to TopToon Japan increased by 265% to 1.56 million. The number of subscribers to TopToon Japan has rapidly increased since mid-year, maintaining an average of over 100,000 new subscribers per month since May.
Revenue has also significantly increased in proportion to the growth in platform users. TopToon Japan's revenue in the third quarter of this year was approximately 2.3 billion KRW, growing 104.7% compared to the previous quarter. Following the second quarter, it succeeded in doubling growth again in the third quarter. As a result, TopToon Japan achieved cumulative revenue exceeding 4 billion KRW by the third quarter of this year.
Topco Media expects significant external growth this year due to the stable cash-generating ability of its distribution business segment and the strong performance of its own platform business. As of the cumulative third quarter, the combined revenue from distribution and platform businesses reached approximately 14 billion KRW, surpassing last year's full-year performance of 11.7 billion KRW.
Additionally, Topco Media is increasing profit margins by leveraging Topco's studio, which has long cultivated webtoon production capabilities, to offer popular works as exclusive pre-releases on its own platform before distributing them to comic platforms in Japan.
The business in Taiwan and North America, managed by the parent company Topco, is also progressing smoothly. The Topco Group expects to achieve a record-high global revenue exceeding 20 billion KRW overseas this year, including Topco Media's Japan business division.
A Topco representative stated, "Regarding the global webtoon business strategy, for Asian countries such as Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, which share cultural affinities with Korea, we plan to continue expanding the number of distributed works. For Western countries like North America, we intend to seek additional growth through localization strategies, such as employing writers suited to local cultures."
A Topco Media representative said, "If the current trend continues, the cumulative number of subscribers to TopToon Japan will easily surpass 1.6 million by the end of the year. Given the nature of the platform business, once the break-even point (BEP) is exceeded, profits are expected to improve significantly."
