Organization of Over 100 Global Member Companies... SDV Technology Leadership
"Accelerating Automotive Electronics Business... Securing Global Top-Tier Competitiveness"
LG Electronics, accelerating its automotive electric and electronic equipment (E/E) business, has joined the board of directors of a global consortium for future mobility solution development. This establishes a foundation for leading core SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) technology for future cars. SDV refers to vehicles controlled and managed by software over hardware.
On the 7th, LG Electronics announced that it recently became the 9th board member of the global vehicle open standardization organization 'SOAFEE' (Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge). Since March last year, it has participated in the Technical Operations Committee and working groups as a voting member. After a recent unanimous vote by the board members, LG Electronics became a board member. It was recognized for contributing to SDV platform development by discovering cloud-native technology usage scenarios considering vehicle driving environments and verifying related technologies.
SOAFEE was established in 2021, led by the UK semiconductor design company ARM. Global IT companies such as German automotive parts manufacturers Bosch and Continental, Red Hat, SUSE, Cariad, and AWS are active as board members. The organization has about 100 member companies.
LG Electronics expects the pace of securing its SDV technology to accelerate after joining the board. The company plans not only to lead SOAFEE’s direction but also to expand global collaboration channels to secure SDV technology leadership. As SDV technology advances, the level of future car customer experience improves.
LG Electronics leads the vehicle infotainment sector, which accounts for a large portion of vehicle software. It is focusing all efforts on pre-developing proprietary solutions in software areas such as vehicle computing, communication, and operating systems. Based on customized solutions, the goal is to become a 'top tier' leader driving global standards by advancing infotainment, telematics, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) products and technologies.
In September, LG Electronics announced its SDV future technology preparation status and declared its automotive E/E business vision at 'IAA Mobility 2023' in Munich, Germany. To lead global standards in the automotive E/E business, it is actively participating in various global consortiums and striving to enhance technological competitiveness. It joined MIPI, a nonprofit consortium for mobile and embedded system interface standardization, in 2004. Recently, it also joined ASA (Automotive SerDes Alliance), a nonprofit industry alliance established for SerDes (Serializer/Deserializer) technology standardization led by the automotive manufacturing industry.
