Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the opening ceremony of the 'Gyeongnam Viewer Media Center,' established to promote viewer participation in broadcasting and enhance media welfare, on the 6th.
The opening ceremony was attended by about 200 people, including Mayor Hong Nam-pyo, Gyeongnam Governor Park Wan-su, city and provincial council members, local broadcasting and cultural figures, and citizens. It began with a congratulatory performance, followed by a progress report, commemorative speeches, a unveiling ceremony, and a facility inspection.
The Gyeongnam Center, located in Jung-dong, Uichang-gu, was selected in the '2019 Korea Communications Commission Viewer Media Center Construction Contest' and was constructed starting in September 2021, completing last October.
Changwon Special City held an opening ceremony for the 'Gyeongnam Viewer Media Center,' established to promote viewer participation in broadcasting and enhance media welfare, on the 6th.
The total project cost was 12.6 billion KRW (1 billion KRW in special grants, 2.5 billion KRW from provincial funds, and 9.1 billion KRW from city funds). The facility covers a total floor area of 4,583㎡, a building area of 1,022㎡, with one basement floor and six above-ground floors.
Since the first center opened in Busan in 2005, this is the eleventh viewer media center registered nationwide. The operation is managed by the Viewer Media Foundation under the Korea Communications Commission.
The Gyeongnam Center consists of ▲1st floor Media Experience Zone and Open Studio ▲2nd floor Comprehensive Recording Studio and Editing Room ▲3rd and 4th floors Multipurpose Hall ▲5th floor Equipment Rental Room ▲6th floor Media Education Room.
In particular, to differentiate from existing viewer media centers, a specialized project called the 'Digital New Technology Experience Zone' was created.
The Digital New Technology Experience Zone, located at the entrance on the 1st floor, is a space where visitors can experience next-generation media technologies such as the Extended Reality (XR) Zone and 3D Media Facade, and realize the metaverse of the real world.
Anyone, including children and adolescents, can freely enjoy this space without a separate reservation, and it is expected to become Changwon's media culture park in the future.
Mayor Hong said, “Even in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution led by artificial intelligence, big data, and robots, one of the fields where jobs are created is the broadcasting media sector,” adding, “We will spare no cooperation and support so that the media center can become a broadcasting creation space for local residents and a cradle for core talents leading the media era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.”
