Haenam-gun Pays 7.3 Billion KRW in Strategic Crop Direct Payments, the Highest in Jeonnam

Sequential Payments Starting from Mid-December

Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do will sequentially pay 7.3 billion KRW in strategic crop direct payments starting from mid-December 2023. This is the largest amount in Jeollanam-do.

According to the county on the 6th, the number of farmers receiving strategic crop direct payments this year is 2,711, covering 6,129 hectares of winter crops, 1,410 hectares of summer crops, and 234 hectares of incentives linked to double cropping.

The strategic crop direct payment system was introduced for the first time this year to improve food self-sufficiency and induce appropriate rice production. Since it utilizes paddy fields, it is similar to the past 'utilization direct payment system,' but summer crops such as paddy soybeans, rice flour, and forage crops have been added in addition to winter crops, with payments ranging from 5 million to 48 million KRW per hectare depending on the crop.

Haenam-gun conducted two rounds of compliance inspections to ensure the effective implementation of the newly introduced strategic crop direct payment system and to prevent fraudulent claims, and finalized the recipients by receiving mass verification and appeals until November.

In addition, to support farmers who suffered damage to summer crops due to frequent heavy rains this year, the county also relaxed the cultivation compliance standards for strategic crops to enable the payment of direct subsidies.

A county official said, "We hope that this strategic crop direct payment will greatly contribute to stabilizing rice supply and demand and stabilizing farm management."
