Kim Hong-il, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, was nominated as the new Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission on the 6th.
Candidate Kim is a former prosecutor and a prominent special investigator.

Born in 1956 in Yesan, Chungnam, he graduated from Chungnam National University with a degree in law. He passed the 24th Judicial Examination in 1982 and completed the 15th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute in 1985. In 1986, he was commissioned as a prosecutor at the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office. He later served as a professor at the Judicial Research and Training Institute, deputy chief prosecutor of the Special 1st Division at Seoul District Prosecutors' Office, chief of the Wonju branch of Chuncheon District Prosecutors' Office, head of the Violent Crimes Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, and deputy chief prosecutor at Daegu District Prosecutors' Office.
In 2007, as the 3rd Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, he led the investigation into former President Lee Myung-bak's alleged secret ownership of land in Dogok-dong and the BBK scandal. In 2009, he directed the investigation into the Busan Savings Bank corruption case as head of the Central Investigation Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. At that time, President Yoon Seok-yeol was the chief of the Central Investigation Division 2.
Candidate Kim left the prosecution in 2013 after serving as the Chief Prosecutor of the Busan High Prosecutors' Office and worked as a lawyer at the law firm Sejong. During the last presidential election, he served as the chairman of the Special Committee for the Truth Investigation of Political Manipulation in Yoon Seok-yeol's campaign. In June, he was appointed as Chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
