On the 5th, President Yoon Suk-yeol nominated Kim Hong-il, the current chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, as the new candidate for the chairman of the Korea Communications Commission.


Kim Dae-gi, the Chief Presidential Secretary, announced the appointment of candidate Kim at the Yongsan Presidential Office that morning.


Chief Secretary Kim introduced, "Candidate Kim retired from the prosecution after serving as the chief prosecutor of the Busan High Prosecutors' Office in 2013, and for over 10 years since then, he has worked both as a lawyer and as chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, covering both the legal profession and public office. After losing his parents in childhood, he became the head of the household, solely responsible for the livelihood and education of his three younger siblings, and later entered university and became a legal professional, making him an inspirational figure."

He continued, "Based on these difficult life experiences, candidate Kim is prepared to devote himself solely to the people as a fair and warm legal professional. He is well known for handling tasks impartially and steadfastly in any situation during his legal and public service career. He possesses not only legal expertise but also rational organizational management skills, earning him strong trust both domestically and internationally."


Chief Secretary Kim also stated, "The Korea Communications Commission currently faces numerous pressing issues where the interests of various sectors sharply conflict and clash. It is a time when fair and just handling of affairs is more necessary than ever. Candidate Kim was judged to be the right person to protect the independence and fairness of the Korea Communications Commission with his work ability, firm conviction in law and principles, and balanced sense that is not biased toward any side."


After the announcement of the appointment by Chief Secretary Kim, candidate Kim expressed his thoughts on the nomination, saying, "If I am appointed through the proper procedures, I will do my best to ensure that broadcasting and communications are fair, independent, and trusted and loved by the people."


On the same day, appointments for the Vice Ministers of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs were also announced. As the successor to Jang Sang-yoon, former Vice Minister of Education who was appointed as Senior Secretary for Social Affairs at the Presidential Office, Oh Seok-hwan, the current Education Secretary at the Presidential Office, was nominated.


Chief Secretary Kim explained about nominee Oh, "He is an expert in primary and secondary education policy, having served as head of the Ministry of Education's School Violence Eradication Task Force and Deputy Superintendent of Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education. Recognized for his planning and execution capabilities, he is currently serving as a secretary at the Presidential Office. Based on 30 years of accumulated educational expertise and outstanding skills, he is expected to smoothly resolve pressing educational issues such as restoring teachers' authority and eradicating school violence."


Regarding Lee Hee-wan, a navy colonel nominated as Vice Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Chief Secretary Kim said, "The nominee is a national hero who, during the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong, served as the deputy commander of the fast patrol boat Chamsuri 357. Despite being shot in both legs, he commanded the patrol boat in place of a fallen soldier and defended our Northern Limit Line. This appointment reflects the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's firm commitment to creating a country that honors its heroes."
