Busan City held the completion ceremony for the second year of the "Energy Sector Social Value Management (ESG) for Sustainable Growth City Creation" project at 2 p.m. on the 5th at Yangji Vocational Rehabilitation Center in Yeonje-gu, together with the Korea Energy Agency, Hanwha Q CELLS, Dongyang ENP, and Grand Sun Technology Group.
This project involves the city and energy sector companies voluntarily installing 20 kW-scale solar power plants free of charge at social welfare facilities vulnerable to climate change, aiming to create a sustainable growth city, Busan.
The project began in May 2022 when the city, Korea Energy Agency, Hanwha Q CELLS, Dongyang ENP, and Grand Sun Technology Group signed an agreement. This completion marks the second achievement following the first-year project completion (20 kW solar power plant) in November last year.
The main support items from each institution according to the agreement are as follows: ▲ Korea Energy Agency Busan-Ulsan Regional Headquarters provides construction costs ▲ Hanwha Q CELLS supplies solar modules ▲ Dongyang ENP provides inverters ▲ Grand Sun Technology Group handles actual cost construction of the solar power plant (including defects).
For the second-year project under the agreement, the city accepted applications for free solar power plant installation support from social welfare facilities this year. After evaluating the economic feasibility and maintenance of the applicant facilities, Yangji Vocational Rehabilitation Center was finally selected as the target site, and the installation of the solar power plant was completed there with the cooperating institutions.
The city expects this project to become a new model for supporting vulnerable groups in the era of climate change by reducing electricity bills at social welfare facilities.
Park Su-won, Director of the Future Energy Industry Division of Busan City, stated, “The solar power plant donation project will be a good model for supporting vulnerable groups in the era of climate change. Our city will continue efforts to maintain a virtuous cycle to create a sustainable Busan that cares for the environment and society following this completion ceremony.”
