Lamborghini Labor Union Agrees to Introduce 4-Day Workweek for Production Workers
Labor and Management Call Wage Increase "Historic"
Italian car manufacturer Lamborghini announced on the 5th (local time) that it has reached an agreement with the labor union to introduce a four-day workweek for production workers.
According to major foreign media, Lamborghini decided to reduce the number of working days for production workers working in two-shift and three-shift systems and introduce a four-day workweek.
Accordingly, production workers on the two-shift system will work five days one week and four days the next, while employees working three shifts including night shifts will work five days one week and four days for two weeks. The company stated that this will reduce the annual working days by 22 days for two-shift workers and 31 days for three-shift workers.
Lamborghini's management and labor union evaluated the agreement as 'historic,' noting that although the number of working days is reduced, this is the first case in the European automotive industry where wages have been increased. They agreed to raise performance bonuses by 50% and to pay a one-time bonus of 1,000 euros (approximately 1.42 million KRW) within this month.
The union and management stated, "The principle that led this negotiation and was part of the comprehensive discussion was to work less and do better."
Lamborghini's recent agreement comes amid the spread of the four-day workweek for production workers across Europe.
Global eyewear manufacturer EssilorLuxottica recently agreed with the union to pilot a four-day workweek for production workers at its factory in Italy, allowing up to 20 weeks annually.
In December last year, Intesa Sanpaolo, an Italian bank that partially introduced a four-day workweek due to energy cost issues, reported that 70% of the 30,000 employees eligible for this option have utilized it.
