Visit to Sinan-gun on the 4th-5th, Benchmarking Tourist Attractions and Renewable Energy
From the 4th to the 5th, Ulleung-gun in Gyeongbuk visited Sinan-gun to conduct a mid-term report meeting on the joint research project for designating duty-free zones centered on remote island small airports and to benchmark major tourist attractions and renewable energy projects in Sinan-gun.
The joint research project for designating duty-free zones centered on remote island small airports is jointly commissioned by Ulleung, Sinan, and Ongjin counties and is being carried out by the Korea Island Promotion Agency. The main purpose of the study is to explore ways to designate duty-free zones to promote tourism and domestic demand in remote island areas (Heuksan, Baengnyeong, Ulleungdo) where small airports are planned to be established.
The mid-term report meeting began with a PPT presentation by the Korea Island Promotion Agency and proceeded in the following order: ▲Research overview and progress ▲Theory and system analysis of duty-free shops ▲Current status and cases of island area duty-free systems for domestic residents ▲Plan for designating duty-free zones centered on remote island small airports ▲Future plans.
This mid-term report meeting was made more meaningful by the joint participation of Nam Han-kwon, the governor of Ulleung-gun, and Park Woo-ryang, the governor of Sinan-gun. Before the meeting, Governor Nam Han-kwon discussed with Governor Park Woo-ryang over tea about the enactment of the Special Act to Support Ulleungdo and Dokdo and the policy direction for revitalizing island tourism.
Following this, officials from Ulleung-gun visited major tourist sites in Sinan-gun such as Purple Island, 1004 Museum Park, 1004 Island Bonsai Garden, and the renewable energy sunlight pension policy project sites to tour local facilities. At this venue, they concluded the schedule by discussing future tourism revitalization policies and ways to improve the residential base for island residents.
Governor Nam Han-kwon said, “I hope to continue mutual exchange and cooperation through such opportunities and discuss ways to improve the residential base on islands.” He added, “For the improvement of the residential base and the future of the islands, we must make every effort to enact the Special Act to Support Ulleungdo and Dokdo and promote mutual cooperation and implementation.”
