Presenting a New Paradigm for Gokseong Tourism

Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced the publication of ‘Embracing Gokseong - Themed Travel 10,’ which breaks away from the conventional tourist guidebook format and allows readers to feel the scenery along with the text.

‘Embracing Gokseong - Themed Travel 10’ introduces the living culture, history, figures, and tourist attractions of the Gokseong area divided into 10 themes in a storytelling format.

This travel book has been praised for its vivid and emotional writing style, crafted by a team of authors including journalists and poets from Gokseong.

It serves not merely as a list of tourist spots but effectively conveys the feelings and reflections each place evokes, acting as a thoughtful guide.

The first themed travel introduces a course following ‘The Seomjin River and Daehwang River, where Gokseong’s history and life flow.’

The journey along the Seomjin River is depicted with beautiful scenery, starting from Hapgang, the gateway where the river first flows into Gokseong from Sunchang, Jeonbuk, passing through Jewol Island, Cheonggye-dong Valley, Chim Wetland, Seomjin River Suspension Bridge, Amnok, and flowing towards Gurye.

It also includes stories of the Daehwang River section from Seokgok to Jukgok to Amnok, which is gaining attention as Gokseong’s new tea-walking trail.

The second themed travel highlights ‘The new driving forces of Gokseong tourism, Train Village and Fairy Tale Village,’ shedding light on the present and future of these two places.

The third themed travel, ‘Gokseong’s famous temples for contemplation,’ introduces well-known local temples such as Dorimsa and Taeansa.

The fourth themed travel, ‘Pilgrimage to famous mountains embodying Gokseong’s spirit,’ guides visitors through beautiful mountains like Dongaksan and Bongdusan, while the fifth themed travel, ‘The current state of Gokseong culture: Literature and Art Museums,’ introduces the Jo Tae-il Poetry Literature Memorial Hall and the Asan Jo Bang-won Art Museum.

The sixth themed travel introduces ‘Ecological treasures, Chim Wetland and Bangujeong Wetland,’ the seventh themed travel covers ‘The cradle of spiritual culture, Gokseong’s pavilions and shrines,’ and the eighth themed travel presents ‘Walking trails perfect for healing.’

The ninth themed travel, ‘Enchanted by taste, Gokseong’s Five Delicacies,’ features local specialty foods, and the tenth themed travel introduces ‘Rural experience and recreation villages where the warmth of the countryside flows,’ showcasing Gokseong’s diverse charms.

Governor Lee Sang-cheol of Gokseong said, “Through this book, I hope tourists can feel the tranquil and beautiful nature of Gokseong with their hearts. It will be an ideal guide for those who want to discover the hidden charms of Gokseong.”
