The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) will announce plans to promote the 수도권광역급행철도 (GTX)-D, E, and F lines as early as this month.
On the 5th, Park Ji-hong, Director of the Railway Bureau at MOLIT, appeared at the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee plenary session and stated, "We are currently conducting planning research on the new GTX D, E, and F lines, and we aim to announce the plans by the end of this year at the earliest, or by early next year at the latest."
Director Park explained, "This announcement is being reviewed at a level that can be reflected in the 5th National Railway Network Plan, at the preliminary feasibility study level," adding, "Whether the project will be funded by the government budget or private capital will be decided later through incorporation into the railway network plan and after undergoing a preliminary feasibility study."
The extension of GTX A, B, and C lines and the establishment of D, E, and F lines are campaign pledges of President Yoon Seok-yeol. At the 'Metropolitan Transportation National Forum' held last month at Dongtan Station in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, President Yoon emphasized, "We will complete all procedures, including the preliminary feasibility study, for the D, E, and F lines during my presidential term and prepare so that construction can begin immediately."
During the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee meeting that day, voices were raised emphasizing that securing funding must come first to build infrastructure like the GTX. MOLIT plans to proceed with sections where private investment is willing as private projects, and sections without private participation interest will be carried out as government-funded projects.
Director Park said, "We must overcome the limitations of government finances through the activation of private investment so that many citizens can enjoy convenient transportation services."
MOLIT also announced that it will finalize route adjustments for the extension of Seoul Subway Line 5 to Gimpo and Geomdan within this month.
