Gyeongju City announced on the 5th that it will recruit participants for the 2024 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project from the 11th to the 15th to support the income and social participation of the elderly.
Next year, Gyeongju City plans to recruit 4,236 seniors, an 18% increase from 3,588 this year, to allow more seniors to participate. The project budget will also increase by 33% from 13.5 billion KRW this year to a total of 18 billion KRW.
Elderly people in Gyeongju are participating in the environmental maintenance project around cultural heritage sites.
Gyeongju City aims to guarantee income for seniors and support a healthy and active old age through various job opportunities and social activity support.
The senior jobs are divided into three types: public interest activities (3,356 people), social service type (609 people), and market type (271 people).
The public interest activity type is for basic pension recipients aged 65 and older, who will engage in activities such as senior care, public facility volunteering, and support for vulnerable groups for 30 hours per month (11 months), receiving 290,000 KRW.
The social service type is for seniors aged 65 and older who will work about 60 hours per month (10 months) at welfare facilities, childcare centers, financial institutions, etc., receiving approximately 630,000 KRW.
The market type is for seniors aged 60 and older who work at small-scale stores such as silver cafes, with activity fees distributed based on earnings (12 months).
Gyeongju City designates five executing institutions to operate the senior job project with professionalism and systematization.
The five executing institutions select participants based on a scoring system considering income, assets, walking ability, and office skills, selecting those with the highest scores first.
Gyeongju City plans to complete the selection of participants for the senior job project within this month and implement the project from January to December next year.
Mayor Ju Nak-young of Gyeongju said, “We are doing our best to promote senior welfare policies, including creating various job opportunities so that seniors can enjoy a healthy and active old age,” and added, “We hope many seniors will participate and show interest during the application period.”
