Daedong Hospital (Director Lee Kwang-jae) is collaborating with Dongnae-gu, Busan (District Mayor Jang Jun-yong) to jointly operate the 2023 Dream Start 'My Health Report Card' health screening program aimed at improving the health of low-income children in the region.
Dream Start is a service based on Article 37 of the Child Welfare Act that comprehensively supports health, welfare, protection, education, and treatment to promote the healthy growth and development of children. It is a support project by the national and local governments to ensure fair starting opportunities for vulnerable children to become healthy and happy members of society.
The Dongnae-gu Dream Start facility, opened in 2011, selects target children and operates over 50 programs across welfare, health, and childcare fields, including individual psychological counseling and treatment, cavity prevention and treatment, and learning support.
From November 27 to December 15, Daedong Hospital conducted health screenings for elementary school students recruited through Dongnae-gu Dream Start, including ▲basic examinations such as medical interviews, body measurements, and blood pressure ▲blood tests for liver and kidney function, diabetes, anemia, hepatitis B, etc. ▲urinalysis ▲chest X-rays ▲growth plate examinations for underweight and short-statured children.
Hwang Hye-rim, Head of the Comprehensive Health Screening Center at Daedong Hospital (Family Medicine Specialist), said, “We are pleased to contribute even a little to disease prevention and healthy growth of children in our community through this project. The screening allows us to check current health status and development, and based on the results, we provide follow-up health management through a collaborative care system including treatment and vaccinations.”
Daedong Hospital supports children in the region to live healthy lives through its Medical Social Work Office, organizing in-hospital sponsorships to provide ▲rehabilitation treatment expenses for children ▲examination fees for children in orphanages, and collaborates with the Purme Foundation for orthotic support and rehabilitation treatment funding. In 2021, it was designated by Busan City as a dedicated medical institution for child abuse, providing medical support for abused children.
Additionally, Kim Jeong-eun, Director of the Medical Social Work Office, was appointed as an operating committee member of Dongnae-gu Dream Start for two years starting in 2023, actively working to improve the health and medical welfare services for vulnerable children in the region.
