Essay 'Mundeuk Geu Hyanggi-ga Geuriun Nal-en'
Boryeong announced on the 5th that the work "On Days When I Suddenly Miss That Fragrance" by Director Park Gwan-seok of Sinjeil Hospital was selected as the grand prize winner at the 19th Boryeong Doctor's Essay Literary Award.
The 19th Boryeong Doctor's Essay Literary Award accepted submissions from July to October. After evaluation by the Korea Essay Literature Promotion Association, a total of nine works were selected as winners: one grand prize, one gold prize, two silver prizes, and five bronze prizes. The grand prize winner receives a plaque and a gold medal, and is given the opportunity to debut as an essay writer through the specialized essay magazine "Essay Literature." The award ceremony is scheduled to be held this afternoon at Boryeong headquarters.
The grand prize-winning work "On Days When I Suddenly Miss That Fragrance" by Director Park Gwan-seok highlights the value and meaning of life through various smells encountered in the hospital. The judges praised the work for its meaningful exploration of the theme of "fragrance" from various perspectives, expanding reflections with a socially critical viewpoint and contemplating human existential issues.
In addition, the gold prize was awarded to ▲Cheopcheop Han Ttam (Jo Seok-hyun, Nuga Gwangmyeong Clinic), the silver prizes to ▲Dying at Thirty (Lee Jin-hwan, Central Military Manpower Administration Medical Examination Office) and ▲Fireworks Grandma (Joo Sae-han, Yangsan Hospital), and the bronze prizes to ▲South Korean (Jang Seong-man, Kyungpook National University Hospital), ▲Evening Glow (Bae Cheol-seong, Pohang Women's Hospital), ▲Beyond the Boundary (Jo Ji-hyun, National Medical Center), ▲Sunny and Suan (Kim Cheol-hwan, Sae Seoul Clinic), and ▲Just Keep Dancing Tango (Kim Yong-rae, Namyangju Paik Hospital).
Meanwhile, the Boryeong Doctor's Essay Literary Award, now in its 19th year, was first established in 2005 in Boryeong to widely promote the meaning of respect for life and love through essays written directly by doctors. Serving as a platform for medical professionals to debut as essayists, it has produced 160 awardees over the past 19 years.
