Professor of Criminal Psychology at Kyonggi University, CBS Interview
"Witnessed the Vulnerability of the Weak for 25 Years, Running for Legislation"
"The Ruling Party Must Also Change... No Left or Right in People's Livelihood"
Professor Lee Soo-jung of the Department of Criminal Psychology at Kyonggi University, who is known to have been recruited by the People Power Party as a talent for next year’s general election, stated, "For 25 years, I have repeatedly witnessed on the ground how vulnerable people, especially the underprivileged, fall into danger outside of office," adding, "As a scholar, I am not holed up in a laboratory; I have decided to fill in all those gaps even now."
On the 5th, Professor Lee appeared on CBS Radio’s 'Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show' and said, "I have never really thought about 'becoming a politician' or 'grasping power,'" and added, "I am going to legislate, not to engage in party activities."

Professor Lee expressed her hope to run in Suwon, where Kyonggi University is located. She emphasized, "From the site of the Hwaseong serial murders, I am someone who has roamed around (Suwon)," and "I have all the memories of how the city of Suwon has changed." She continued, "Usually, I have not been very interested in proportional representation," adding, "The capacity of proportional representatives is that of party members, and it is somewhat difficult for them to actively ignite their own legislative will."
Regarding the situation of the People Power Party, Professor Lee said, "Change is necessary," and added, "Any political sphere requires self-sacrifice. The moment politics is seen as power, it becomes corrupt. Since the authority of politicians comes entirely from the people, I fully agree that change is needed where that authority is passed on to the next generation through self-sacrifice, whether in the ruling or opposition party."
She explained her reason for choosing Suwon as her electoral district, saying, "I have a lot. I have earned my living as a professor for 25 years, I have social status, a family, and a home," and added, "Even I will make self-sacrifice and go to a tough district that I care about."
In response to criticism from the opposition regarding her general election activities, she said, "The biggest problem in our country’s politics is pushing someone as if they cannot do one thing if they choose another, saying 'Anyway, they belong to that side,'" and countered, "How can politics be only left or right? Livelihood has neither left nor right."
She said, "People who used iPhones do not have to keep using only iPhones. They can use Samsung smartphones too," and criticized, "Thoughts change as one lives, but it is hard to erase the feeling that no one in the current National Assembly cares about the livelihood of the people."
Professor Lee named the 'Anti-Human Trafficking Act' as the bill she most wants to create if she becomes a member of the National Assembly. She explained, "Human trafficking happens so easily in our country, and to prevent that, punishment provisions and sting operations are necessary," adding, "If such measures are not included in the bill, children will be lured, groomed, bought and sold, and if those children become pregnant, even the infants will be bought and sold, and these things cannot be stopped."
