Ulsan, Pohang, Gyeongju 'Haeoreum Alliance' 3 Cities and 6 Universities Gather

6th University and City Co-prosperity Forum

Exploring Future Strategies Following Glocal University Designation

Three local governments and six universities of the Haeoreum Alliance gather in one place.


Ulsan City announced on the 5th at 2 p.m. that it will hold the ‘6th Univer+City Forum for the Co-prosperity of Universities and Cities’ at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST).


Univer+City is a compound word combining University and City, expressing the intention to seek regional development and contribute to national growth through cooperation among industry, academia, and government.


At the forum, the three local governments of the Haeoreum Alliance?Ulsan, Pohang, and Gyeongju?and six universities (UNIST, University of Ulsan, POSTECH, Handong Global University, Dongguk University, and Uiduk University) will gather to discuss development strategies under the theme of ‘University-Region Co-growth Glocal University Strategy.’


The event will proceed with ▲Opening Ceremony ▲Keynote Speech ▲Thematic Presentations (by three universities), among others.


In the keynote speech, Kim Do-yeon, Chairman of Ulsan Industrial Academy, will deliver a lecture titled ‘Co-prosperity of Universities and Cities (Univer+City) for a Bright Future.’


In the thematic presentations, Jo Ji-woon, Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Ulsan, will present ‘An Integrated University of Knowledge, Industry, and Academia Driving the Global Competitiveness of the Ulsan Community’; Jung Woo-sung, Director of Research at POSTECH, will present ‘POSTECH Rooted in the Region, Expanding Globally and Bearing Fruit’; and Cho Hyung-joon, Department Head at UNIST, will present ‘Cases of Inter-University Cooperation for Training Physician-Scientists.’


An official from Ulsan City said, “This forum was organized as a place to explore win-win measures between the local governments and universities of the Haeoreum Alliance following the announcement of the Glocal University selection,” adding, “We expect it to be an opportunity for industry, academia, and government to join forces in creating a virtuous cycle ecosystem for nurturing future talents, enhancing industrial competitiveness, and creating jobs.”


The Univer+City Forum began in 2016 with the opening of the Ulsan?Pohang Expressway.
