Sunchang-gun Hosts 'Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony' Event

On the 1st, Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk, held a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in front of the Sunchang High School intersection at Dokdae Madang, the county announced on the 4th.

The event, hosted by the Sunchang-gun Christian Association (President Kim Yeop) and supported by Sunchang-gun, was attended by about 60 people including Choi Young-il, the governor of Sunchang-gun, Shin Jeong-i, chairman of the Sunchang-gun Council, local social organization leaders, Christian Association officials, and residents.

The lighting ceremony, which began at 5 p.m., proceeded in the order of introduction of guests, commemorative worship, congratulatory speeches, and tree lighting. Attendees reflected on the teachings and loving hands of baby Jesus and prayed for the harmony and well-being of the residents.

According to the Sunchang-gun Christian Association, a large Christmas tree will be installed at Dokdae Madang, which has become a landmark of Sunchang and has a large floating population, until mid-January next year to improve the night scenery and attractions, and to shine the world with lights of sharing, love, and hope for residents and believers.

Governor Choi Young-il said, “Since 2000, the Sunchang-gun Christian Association has played the role of light and salt for the residents through various relief projects, joint revival meetings, breakfast prayer meetings, and operating daycare centers, helping children in need and elderly living alone at each member church.” He added, “Through this lighting ceremony, we hope to wrap up the eventful Year of the Rabbit well at the end of the year and wish for the well-being of the residents and a hopeful new year of the Year of the Dragon 2024.”

Kim Yeop, president of the Sunchang-gun Christian Association who took office as the 32nd president on the 23rd of last month, said, “I hope that tourists visiting Sunchang and residents will enjoy the Christmas tree and that it will become a message of hope that brightly lights up the hearts of the residents.”
