On the 4th, President Yoon Suk-yeol nominated Song Mi-ryeong, former Vice President of the Korea Rural Economic Institute, as the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. If Song is appointed as minister, it will mark the first time since the ministry's establishment in 1948 that a woman has taken office as minister.

Born in 1967, Song graduated from Ewha Womans University with a degree in Political Science and Diplomacy, earned a master's degree in Urban Planning from Seoul National University, followed by a doctorate in Public Administration, and joined the Korea Rural Economic Institute in 1997. At the institute, she served as Director of Planning and Coordination, Vice President, Head of the 14th Agricultural Outlook Division, and Head of the Agriculture and Rural Policy Research Division.
