Installation Completed for Rear License Plate Recognition Enforcement Equipment at 12 Locations Including in Front of Dongnae Police Station
Public Awareness Survey on Autonomous Police Indicates Need to Strengthen Enforcement Against Motorcycle Tr
The Busan Autonomous Police Committee and Busan Metropolitan Police Agency have installed rear license plate unmanned traffic enforcement devices at 12 locations with frequent motorcycle traffic accidents to create a safer traffic environment for citizens.

Since the spread of delivery culture after COVID-19, the volume of motorcycle traffic has increased, leading to widespread illegal activities such as signal violations, crossing the center line, reckless driving, and sidewalk intrusion, causing citizens to perceive motorcycles as the most threatening on the roads.
Accordingly, the Autonomous Police Committee judged that enforcement by traffic police alone has limitations and, in collaboration with the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency and Nam-gu Office, promoted the inclusion of rear license plate unmanned traffic enforcement devices in the ICT advanced intersection project.
Starting with two units in the Kyungsung University area of Nam-gu, an additional 10 units were installed in areas with frequent motorcycle traffic accidents, totaling 12 rear license plate enforcement devices.
The rear license plate unmanned traffic enforcement devices use artificial intelligence (AI)-based video analysis technology to recognize rear license plates, identify motorcycles, and enforce violations such as speeding, signal violations, and helmet non-wearing.
In particular, these devices can enforce traffic violations for all vehicles, not just motorcycles, and are expected to be highly effective in preventing traffic accidents and establishing an advanced traffic culture.
In a recent survey on awareness of the Busan Autonomous Police, 46.8% identified motorcycle traffic violations as a "traffic safety threat factor," and 46.9% expressed the highest demand for enforcement activities against violations to strengthen traffic safety.
Therefore, the Autonomous Police Committee is continuously promoting campaigns to prevent motorcycle safety accidents and is attempting a paradigm shift in advanced unmanned traffic safety facilities by gradually expanding the rear license plate unmanned traffic enforcement devices, including installing five more units next year.
Jung Yong-hwan, Chairman of the Busan Autonomous Police Committee, stated, “The rear license plate enforcement system will encourage safe driving of motorcycles and be highly effective in preventing traffic accidents,” adding, “We will do our best to prevent accidents among five high-risk groups?pedestrians, the elderly, motorcycles, commercial vehicles, and drunk driving?for a safe Busan without traffic accidents.”
