Seongbuk-gu Winter Kimchi Sharing Supported by Local Churches and Saemaeul Geumgo

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is continuing kimchi sharing events across the district to help neighbors in need have a warm winter. Local churches and Saemaeul Geumgo (Community Credit Cooperatives) are also lending their support to the kimchi sharing efforts.


Seoul Northern Saemaeul Geumgo Donates 1,000kg of Kimchi, Shared with 200 Households in Jangwi 2-dong


On the 21st of last month, a warm winter love kimchi sharing event was held at Seoul Northern Saemaeul Geumgo (Chairman Han Jong-yeol) in Jangwi 2-dong.


Members of the Saemaeul Geumgo Mothers’ Association gathered early in the morning to prepare ingredients and make kimchi with care and love. The 1,000kg of kimchi made that day was donated to the Jangwi 2-dong Community Service Center (Head Kim Yong-hwan) and distributed to 200 households including elderly living alone and families in welfare blind spots. Notably, the event was further enriched by sponsorship from the Jangwi 2-dong Community Security Council and the Residents’ Autonomy Committee.


Han Jong-yeol, Chairman of Seoul Northern Saemaeul Geumgo, said, “We hope this can be of some help to neighbors in our community who are marginalized and struggling financially.” Seoul Northern Saemaeul Geumgo has been a model in the community by consistently donating rice and other support items every year.


Samseon Saemaeul Geumgo Shares 1,750kg of Kimchi for Residents of Bomun-dong, Anam-dong, and Samseon-dong


On the 23rd of last month, Samseon Saemaeul Geumgo (Chairwoman Lee Sook-hee) held a kimchi sharing event to help our neighbors stay warm during winter.


They distributed 1,750kg of kimchi to Bomun-dong, Anam-dong, and Samseon-dong Community Service Centers, as well as to the Seongbuk-gu Sign Language Interpretation Center, Seongbuk Welfare Center for the Visually Impaired, and multicultural families. The kimchi was delivered to low-income neighbors and senior centers, places in need of assistance.


Lee Sook-hee, Chairwoman of Samseon Saemaeul Geumgo, said, “I am glad to be able to help the community. I hope this support helps local residents stay warm during the cold winter.”


Seongbuk Jeil Saemaeul Geumgo Shares 2,000kg of Kimchi with 200 Households in Gireum 1-dong and Gireum 2-dong


On the 24th of last month, Seongbuk Jeil Saemaeul Geumgo (Chairman Hwang Ha-yeon) conducted the ‘MG Hope Sharing Love Plus Kimchi Sharing Event’ as part of its community social contribution projects.


Despite subzero temperatures, members of the Seongbuk Jeil Saemaeul Geumgo Mothers’ Association and employees gathered early in the morning, busy making kimchi to help neighbors have a warm winter. Having volunteered together for a long time, their teamwork was seamless, and they encouraged each other, filling the kimchi with positive energy, resulting in delicious kimchi. The completed 2,000kg of kimchi was delivered to 200 low-income households in Gireum 1-dong and Gireum 2-dong.


Hwang Ha-yeon, Chairman of Seongbuk Jeil Saemaeul Geumgo, said, “I hope the kimchi made with all our care will be enjoyed by neighbors in need and help them have a warm winter. We will continue various social contribution activities for the community.”

Sarang Church in Jeongneung 3-dong Shares 700kg of Kimchi with 70 Underprivileged Households


On the 27th of last month, Sarang Church (Senior Pastor Jang In-seong) located in Jeongneung 3-dong was busy making kimchi from early dawn.


Despite the cold weather, many church members, including Pastor Kim Jeong-ja’s wife, moved heavy ingredients back and forth, beads of sweat forming on their foreheads as they prepared the kimchi.


Sarang Church donated 700kg of kimchi made that day to the Jeongneung 3-dong Community Service Center. The kimchi was distributed to 70 underprivileged households in welfare blind spots.


Regarding the kimchi sharing events held throughout Seongbuk-gu, District Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, “I thank everyone who shares love for the marginalized neighbors in our community every year, and our district office will also carefully ensure that residents can have a warm winter.”
