Samsung Electronics and 23 Affiliates Donate to Community Chest of Korea
Purchased 290,000 Calendars from 8 NGOs and Distributed to Employees
Samsung announced on the 1st that it donated 50 billion KRW in year-end Neighbor Love funds to the Community Chest of Korea.
On the same day, Samsung held a donation ceremony at the Community Chest headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul. The ceremony was attended by Kim Byung-joon, Chairman of the Community Chest, Choi Young-moo, President of Samsung Social Contribution, and employee representatives Seo Jun-young and Hwang Jun from Samsung Electronics.
Since 1999, Samsung has been donating year-end Neighbor Love funds to the Community Chest for 25 years. The cumulative total amount of donations this year reached 820 billion KRW. Samsung donated 10 billion KRW annually from 1999 to 2003, 20 billion KRW from 2004 to 2010, 30 billion KRW in 2011, and 50 billion KRW annually since 2012.
Despite a difficult business environment this year, with the semiconductor business turning to a loss due to economic downturn, Samsung maintained the scale of the year-end donation. The funds are used to support youth education and socially vulnerable groups. The Community Chest presented a plaque of appreciation at the ceremony.
The donation involved 23 affiliates including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDS, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Samsung Card, Samsung Securities, Samsung C&T, Samsung Engineering, Cheil Worldwide, and S-1.
A Samsung official stated, "Each affiliate went through its own approval process for external donation contributions."

Donations voluntarily collected by employees of the affiliates were also included in the funds. Additionally, Samsung employees participated in the Samsung 'Donation Fair' for five weeks starting from the 15th of last month. At the Donation Fair, they pre-registered to donate a certain amount from their monthly salary next year.
Chairman Kim Byung-joon said, "As difficult economic conditions continue, there are more neighbors in need of help than ever before. The precious funds donated by Samsung will greatly help our neighbors to dream of a better life and create a brighter future."
Meanwhile, Samsung plans to distribute 290,000 desk calendars for next year to employees, produced in collaboration with eight non-governmental organizations (NGOs) including UNICEF, Blue Tree Foundation, Good Neighbors, Save the Children, and JA (Junior Achievement) Korea. The calendars feature photos of Samsung and NGO major social contribution (CSR) projects.
Samsung purchases the calendars made by the NGOs. The purchase cost is used for NGO CSR projects. A Samsung official said, "Since 2019, Samsung has been purchasing calendars made together with NGOs not only to support NGO CSR projects but also to raise employee awareness of the company's social role."
This year, 14 Samsung affiliates including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDS, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Samsung Card, Samsung Securities, Samsung C&T, Cheil Worldwide, and Samsung Bioepis participated in purchasing the desk calendars.
