Korean Archery Association Presents Appreciation Plaque to Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo
"Korean archery is based on the principles of fairness and transparency, earning trust and love from the public. Now, we must consider and practice how archery can contribute to our society."
Jung Eui-sun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group and President of the Korea Archery Association, emphasized this at the 60th Anniversary event of Korean Archery held on the 1st at the Grand Walkerhill in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. Chairman Jung said, "I thank everyone who has dedicated themselves to the development of Korean archery over the past 60 years," adding, "Our archery must continue efforts to get closer to the public."
Korean archery began in earnest with its membership in the International Archery Federation in 1963. It developed dramatically after the establishment of the Korea Archery Association in 1983. In 1985, Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo took office as the president of the Korea Archery Association and laid the foundation for Korean archery to leap to the top of the world by discovering talent and domesticating equipment. On this day, the Korea Archery Association presented a special merit appreciation plaque to Honorary Chairman Chung.

Over the past 60 years, Korean archery has been loved by the entire nation. Achievements such as the first-ever nine consecutive Olympic golds in the women's team event and sweeping all Olympic categories have shone on the world stage, but above all, these results were recognized as a product of fairness and transparency in the selection process of representative athletes. The Korea Archery Association avoids unreasonable practices caused by regionalism, school ties, and factions, selecting athletes through thorough competition. The transparent selection process and systematic system have created a virtuous cycle leading to nurturing excellent talent and achieving top results in international competitions.
Chairman Jung laid the groundwork for the Korea Archery Association to operate with a transparent system that adheres to principles. Now, efforts will be made to establish archery not just as a sport in international competitions but as a popular sport that the Korean people can enjoy together. To this end, the Korea Archery Association is promoting a project to include archery in school physical education classes. Measures have also been prepared to allow the general public to enjoy archery as a recreational sport through hosting archery competitions.

Chairman Jung was appointed president of the Korea Archery Association in 2005. Since his appointment, he has contributed to Korean archery reaching the world’s top by stabilizing the association’s finances, improving performance through sports science, and systematizing the excellent athlete development system.
In 2013, a youth national team corresponding to the elementary school level was established, and equipment was provided free of charge. He also actively promoted entry into international sports organizations, expanding Korea’s influence in the global archery community. Chairman Jung is serving his fifth term as president of the Asian Archery Federation. Hyundai Motor Group is the title sponsor of the Archery World Cup and World Archery Championships organized by the World Archery Federation.
Since the 2016 Rio Olympics, various new technologies such as AI, vision recognition, and 3D printing have been introduced into athlete training, all developed by Hyundai Motor Group’s research and development (R&D). It is known that Chairman Jung actively proposed the introduction of these technologies. The effectiveness of these new technologies has been proven by the performance of Korean athletes on the world stage.
