Opening of Dongjak English-Specialized 'Dongjak Yeongeo Maru Library'

Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) opened the 'Dongjak English Maru Library (Jangseungbaegi-ro 16-gil 98)' on November 30, where children can develop English reading habits through play.

As Dongjak-gu's first English-specialized library, it was remodeled from the existing Dongjak Children's Library, with a total floor area of 444.3㎡ (148 pyeong), spanning from basement level 1 to the 2nd floor above ground.

On the 1st and 2nd floors, about 15,000 English original books are available for reading in stages from infants to adults, and domestic children's books can be found in the dedicated reading space (hideout) called the attic.

In particular, separate audiovisual and play experience spaces have been created, and various English-specialized programs centered on diverse play and sensory experiences will be operated.

The library operates from Tuesday to Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM, and on weekends until 5 PM. It is closed every Monday and on public holidays.

During December, the library will be operated on a trial basis under the event name 'Surprise! Welcome to MARU!'.

▲ Lecture by English education expert 'Joyce Park' ▲ English musicals ▲ English experience programs combining digital content and physical activities ▲ Maru's English Classic Theater, among others, have been prepared.

During the trial operation period, user demand for services will be identified and reflected, with full-scale operation planned from next year.

For more detailed information about the opening event, please refer to the library's website.

Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, "Starting with the English Maru Library, we plan to sequentially introduce a children's English playground and a math and science experience center," adding, "We will continuously create an environment where children can naturally acquire English, math, and science through play."
