Inspection and Measures Completed for Air Quality Monitoring Stations and Environmental Electronic Display Boards
Pohang City will implement the 'Seasonal Fine Dust Management System' from December, when fine dust worsens significantly in winter, until March next year.
The 'Seasonal Fine Dust Management System' enforces strengthened fine dust emission reduction and management measures from December to March of the following year, when the concentration of ultrafine dust (PM2.5) increases, to mitigate high-concentration fine dust occurrences and protect citizens' health.
In particular, the restriction on driving Grade 5 emission vehicles will be fully enforced from December 1 to March 31 next year. During the 5th Seasonal Fine Dust Management System period, Grade 5 vehicles operating in the Seoul metropolitan area, Busan, Daegu, and this year also in Gwangju, Daejeon, Ulsan, and Sejong will be restricted from driving on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., excluding weekends and public holidays. Violations will incur a fine of 100,000 KRW per day under the Special Act on Fine Dust.
However, in the six special and metropolitan cities, vehicles subject to Article 9 of the Enforcement Decree of the Special Act on Fine Dust, commercial vehicles, vehicles that have applied for low-emission measures, vehicles that cannot be equipped with reduction devices, or vehicles that cannot replace engines with low-emission engines are exempt from enforcement.
Pohang City has completed preparations including ▲restriction on driving Grade 5 vehicles in the public sector ▲two-day driving system for administrative and public institution vehicles ▲inspection of fine dust safe spaces and fine dust traffic lights ▲and operation of 11 air environment monitoring stations and 6 environmental electronic display boards.
Additionally, during the seasonal management period, to prevent illegal fine dust emissions from air emission business sites, a 24-hour multi-layered monitoring system will be established and operated, including the Environmental Civil Complaint Situation Room, private environmental monitors, and the Safety Newspaper. Plans also include ▲operation of a concentrated collection period for agricultural waste ▲designation and operation of roads for intensive management of road dust ▲and indoor air quality inspections at multi-use facilities.
Shin Jeong-hyeok, Director of the Environmental Policy Division, stated, “We will strengthen management to minimize citizens’ damage from fine dust and promptly provide information on fine dust through fine dust traffic lights and environmental electronic display boards.”
