Gwangju Nam-gu, Significant Impact of AI·IoT-Based Senior Health Management Project

Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is achieving significant results in improving chronic disease and health management behaviors through its specialized AI·IoT-based senior health management project.

Gwangju Nam-gu, Significant Impact of AI·IoT-Based Senior Health Management Project

This is attributed to seniors with hypertension and diabetes voluntarily establishing health management plans and managing their blood pressure and blood sugar levels through exercise and dietary therapy.

On the 30th, Nam-gu announced that a pre- and post-evaluation conducted on 613 seniors participating in the AI·IoT-based senior health management project showed an increase in the control rates of hypertension and diabetes.

The AI·IoT-based senior health management project targets seniors aged 65 and older in the district who need improvement in chronic disease and health behaviors.

This year, Nam-gu has provided five types of devices?including AI speakers equipped with IoT technology offering emergency call and notification functions, activity trackers, scales, blood pressure monitors, and blood glucose meters?to seniors in the district to support their health management.

In particular, to measure the overall performance of this project, pre- and post-evaluations were conducted in April and October respectively, and the results showed a significant improvement in the control rates of hypertension and diabetes among the district’s seniors.

The control rate indicates whether blood pressure and diabetes levels are being properly managed; a higher rate means better health management.

The hypertension control rate among 408 seniors increased by 12.9%, from 54.4% in the pre-survey to 67.3% in the post-survey, while the diabetes control rate among 195 seniors rose by 11.8%, from 74.4% to 86.2%.

The success of this project in managing chronic diseases is due to participants using advanced technology devices to establish health management plans and engaging in self-directed activities such as the 'Know Your Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar Challenge.'

Additionally, they are improving their health management behaviors by combining exercise and dietary therapy.

A Nam-gu official stated, "The AI·IoT-based senior health management project has achieved great results, and participant satisfaction is very high. We plan to expand recruitment of new participants starting next year."
