Expected to Lead Architectural Culture and Create Beautiful Urban Landscapes with the 'Design Gangdong Architecture Award'

Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 29th that three buildings?Som Planet (photo), Jageun Doshi Arts Nine, and Brick Dunchon?were selected as winners of the ‘2023 Design Gangdong Architecture Awards,’ held to promote proper architectural culture and outstanding buildings.

The ‘2023 Design Gangdong Architecture Awards,’ held for the first time this year in Gangdong-gu, focused on originality and symbolism in selecting buildings that have transformed the local landscape through innovative design and planning.

‘Som Planet (331-9 Gildong, CEO Architect Jeong Sang-gyeong of Yoap Architects)’ is a multi-family residential building planned to serve as a landmark for multi-family housing in a residential area along a side street. It was praised for its “original design that stands out with a new interpretation breaking away from the uniform facades and finishing materials typical of low-rise residential dense areas.”

‘Brick Dunchon (107-4 Dunchon-dong, Architect Kim Young-soo of Moreless Architects)’ is a detached house featuring a facade expressed with warm-colored bricks. It received acclaim for its “creativity that stands out by utilizing the density and texture of facing bricks, as well as material characteristics through light and shadow, expressing experimental and diverse textures.”

‘Jageun Doshi Arts Nine (507-4 Amsa-dong, Architect Shim Hong-sik of Kan Architects)’ was evaluated as “a landmark at Seonsa Intersection, created by using sculptural facade planning and simple exterior materials to overcome the triangular unfavorable site shape and regulatory constraints due to sunlight setback lines.”

Yoo Young-seop, Director of the Architecture Division, stated, “We will continue to discover creative buildings that can lead architectural culture through the ‘Design Gangdong Architecture Awards’ and strive to create a beautiful urban landscape.”
