"Looks like a Zainichi Korean"… Former DHC Chairman with 'Anti-Korean Controversy' Makes Another Discriminatory Remark

Former DHC Chairman's New Company Website Contains Discriminatory Expression
"Do Foreigners Understand the Japanese Mind?"

Former DHC chairman Yoshida Yoshiaki, who sparked controversy with his "anti-Korean remarks," has come under fire again for allegedly using ethnic discriminatory expressions on the website of a new company he established.

According to the Mainichi Shimbun on the 29th, the Japanese mail-order company "Yamatogokoro" (大和心) stated in a post by Chairman Yoshida on the 21st, "It seems that Yamatogokoro is the only major comprehensive mail-order company led by a pure Japanese."

He went on to say that the president of Japan's largest mail-order company, "Amazon Japan," is Chinese, and after mentioning the name of the chairman of another major mail-order company, "Rakuten," he said, "Judging by facial features, he looks like a Zainichi Korean, but he strongly denies it."

Yoshida also claimed that there are stories that the presidents of "Yodobashi Camera" and "Yahoo Japan" are 100% of Zainichi Korean descent, adding, "I doubt whether foreigners can understand the Japanese mindset."

Previously, since November 2020, Yoshida had posted several anti-Korean posts on the DHC website, causing controversy. He claimed that his competitor Suntory mainly employs "Korea-affiliated" Japanese who are ridiculed on the internet, and wrote that NHK, Japan's public broadcaster, which investigated Yoshida's discriminatory acts, is the mastermind behind "Koreanization" of Japan.

When the controversy over Yoshida's anti-Korean incitement grew, DHC deleted the related posts without an apology. However, as criticism intensified in South Korea, DHC eventually withdrew from the Korean market in September 2021. Subsequently, Yoshida sold DHC to Orix in January and established Yamatogokoro, launching its website this month.
