KCC Meets Samsung and Apple, Urges "Expand Device Choice"

On the morning of the 29th, the Korea Communications Commission held a meeting with senior officials from major mobile phone manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and Apple. The purpose was to discuss various cooperation measures to alleviate the burden of purchasing mobile phones and to listen to industry opinions.


The Commission noted that the burden of household communication expenses is increasing due to the recent trend of high mobile phone prices and repair costs, and urged manufacturers to make various efforts such as expanding users' device choice and revitalizing the distribution of used phones. Additionally, they listened to the difficulties faced by the two major global companies due to the unique characteristics of the domestic device distribution market, and agreed to strive to establish various policy foundations for mutual cooperation and coexistence.

Chairman Lee Dong-kwan stated, “Mobile phones have become an essential commodity in daily life as a key means for all citizens to use communication services and content without burden, making their role and function very important. We will continue to develop and implement various policies to reduce household communication expenses, including alleviating the burden of purchasing mobile phones, and to enhance user rights.” He added, “We hope manufacturers will also actively cooperate with a loving interest in the domestic device distribution market, while enhancing corporate value through healthy competition.”
