Sudden Shock While Eating School Lunch... Bugs Found in Lunchboxes at High Schools in Changwon Area

In the school meals of a high school in Changwon, Gyeongnam, controversy has arisen as insects were repeatedly found.

According to the Gyeongnam Office of Education and Changwon City on the 29th, insects were found in the side dishes of a high school meal in Changwon on the 23rd.

A student who saw this posted a reaction on an online community the next afternoon, expressing surprise that insects appeared.

The post included a photo showing insects inside a side dish of stir-fried king oyster mushrooms and vegetables.

It is known that on the 27th, four days later, students again found an insect in the school's meal side dishes.

The school was understood to have been receiving lunch boxes from a consignment company and distributing them to students since the 17th due to internal construction in the cafeteria.

A school official said, "We held an emergency meeting on the 28th and terminated the contract with the company," adding, "As soon as we confirmed the situation, we stopped meal distribution and replaced meals with bread and milk or purchased lunch boxes from a specialized lunch box company to provide to students."

"We will do our best to provide alternative menus to ensure hygienic and nutritious meals for students until the cafeteria construction is completed and to find a new consignment company," they added.

Changwon City is investigating the cause of the insects by inspecting the hygiene of the company after verifying the facts and plans to take corrective measures such as issuing orders once the investigation is complete.

The provincial Office of Education plans to send official letters to consignment meal companies in the province, urging them to pay close attention to hygiene.
