Opening a New Horizon for Proactive Infectious Disease Crisis Response System
Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 29th that it has officially started full-scale operations by holding an opening ceremony on the 28th for the independent Infectious Disease Control Center within the public health center site, the first of its kind in the Honam region.
About 400 people attended the opening ceremony of the Hampyeong-gun Infectious Disease Control Center, including Lee Sang-ik, Mayor of Hampyeong-gun, Yoon Aeng-rang, Chairman of the Hampyeong-gun Council, council members, heads of local institutions and social organizations, and residents.
The county expanded the existing screening clinic into an Infectious Disease Control Center with a total floor area of 641.25㎡ over three above-ground floors by investing a total project cost of 3.079 billion KRW through a rural medical service improvement project contest.
The first floor of the center is equipped with a specimen room and examination room with negative pressure facilities, an X-ray room for respiratory treatment, and a waste storage room.
The second and third floors are used as response spaces, housing offices, a situation room, and a multipurpose education room.
With the Infectious Disease Center expanded into an independent building, integrated management of respiratory infectious diseases is conducted during normal times, and in epidemic crisis situations such as COVID-19, proactive crisis response is enabled through rapid and large-scale testing.
Mayor Lee Sang-ik said, “With the opening of the first independent Infectious Disease Control Center in Gwangju and Jeonnam, we expect that early containment of infectious diseases through mass testing and rapid diagnosis will lead to healthier residents and improved quality of life.”
