Kumho Tire announced on the 29th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation with Orion Korea, its Korean subsidiary, to jointly develop sustainable tires and raw materials.
The two companies will carry out a tire research and development project applying carbon black made from renewable materials such as vegetable oil and pyrolysis oil from waste tires.
They aim to expand the use of eco-friendly carbon black in the tire manufacturing process.
Last year, Kumho Tire developed tires using 55% sustainable raw materials and received an A grade in the ESG evaluation by the Korea ESG Institute this year.
Recently, they succeeded in developing tires with 80% sustainable raw materials, and through this MOU, they are expected to strengthen their eco-friendly initiatives.
