Seocho-gu Achieves Double Crown in Seoul Food Hygiene Comprehensive Evaluation

Seocho-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seong-su) achieved a double crown by winning the Grand Prize and a Special Award in the ‘2023 Comprehensive Evaluation of Food Hygiene’ hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

In this evaluation, Seoul comprehensively assessed 22 indicators across 7 areas of food hygiene management for autonomous districts, including ▲food safety management infrastructure ▲inspection and sampling test performance ▲food hygiene complaint handling ▲food poisoning response and food service establishment management ▲dietary improvement ▲integrity and courteous administrative services.

The district received high scores in all indicators and was awarded the ‘Grand Prize.’ Along with this, it also received a ‘Special Award’ for the special project ‘Cooperative and Win-Win Improvement Project for Restaurant Hygiene Environment.’

In particular, the ‘Cooperative and Win-Win Improvement Project for Restaurant Hygiene Environment,’ which received the Special Award, consists of two projects: ▲restaurant kitchen organization and storage consulting ▲support project for environmental improvement of small-scale restaurants.

The ‘restaurant kitchen organization and storage consulting’ project, launched this year, involved organization and storage experts trained through resident education by the district visiting sites to provide one-on-one customized consulting on efficient space utilization and food ingredient organization and storage methods for kitchens, refrigerators/freezers, and storage cabinets, significantly improving kitchen environments and receiving great responses.

Additionally, the ‘support project for environmental improvement of small-scale restaurants’ provided environmental improvements to restaurants struggling with facility upgrades due to prolonged economic downturn, reducing the economic burden on business owners and enhancing kitchen hygiene levels, earning recognition as a ‘win-win administration.’

Going forward, the district plans to use the incentive project fund of 50 million KRW secured from this award to support hygiene supplies for excellent hygiene establishments in the region.

Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, “We will continue to create a food environment that residents can trust and feel safe with through thorough food hygiene management.”
