Uljin-gun Attends New National Industrial Complex Business Briefing Session Uljin County Office.

This briefing session was hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and organized by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation. Representatives from six candidate local governments for new national industrial complexes and over 30 companies participated to actively promote investment attractiveness, including support strategies and locational advantages for each candidate site.

On this day, Uljin-gun gave a presentation under the theme "Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex Guide." Amid the accelerating transition to clean energy to achieve carbon neutrality, Uljin-gun, abundant in nuclear clean power, highlighted itself as the optimal location for the nuclear clean hydrogen industry, drawing significant attention.

Furthermore, Uljin-gun solidified the foundation for creating a full-cycle clean hydrogen industry ecosystem by signing business agreements with hydrogen-related anchor companies such as Lotte Chemical, GS Construction, SK Ecoplant, GS Energy, Hyosung Heavy Industries, and BHI.

Located at the northernmost part of the East Coast in Gyeongbuk, Uljin is establishing itself as a nuclear clean hydrogen production city leading the growth of the East Coast hydrogen economy belt.

Including Shin-Hanul Units 3 and 4, Uljin-gun possesses a total of 10 nuclear power plants, making it the region with the most nuclear power plants in the world. Therefore, by supplying abundant nuclear clean power to the national industrial complex, it aims to mass-produce economically viable clean hydrogen and is actively working on institutional improvements to ensure sustainable business activities for companies in the carbon-neutral era.

Moreover, Uljin has established differentiated strategies unique to the county, such as promoting the designation of hydrogen-specialized complexes and opportunity development zones to foster the entire clean hydrogen industry cycle from production to storage, transportation, and utilization. Uljin-gun plans to support companies entering the national industrial complex through a dedicated organization and provide the best incentives to promote corporate growth and development.

In particular, the Samcheok-Pohang railway is scheduled to open in January 2025, and with the future completion of the central region east-west transversal railway and the East Coast expressway, it is expected that logistics and transportation accessibility for the hydrogen industry along the East Coast will be secured.

County Governor Son Byeong-bok stated, “We will do our best to continuously and actively promote the successful establishment of the Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex and create favorable conditions for business in the carbon-neutral era.”
