Bedbug Report Received in Sleeping Room
"Nearby Businesses Also Investigated... No Additional Findings"
Multiple bedbugs were found in Mokpo, Jeollanam-do, prompting health authorities to launch an emergency extermination.
According to Mokpo City on the 27th, a report was received around 1 p.m. that day about bedbugs being found at a jjimjilbang in Mokpo.

As a result of on-site inspection by quarantine authorities, it was confirmed that 10 to 15 bedbugs were found under the floor mat in the sleeping room. Accordingly, the authorities completed disinfection measures including steam sterilization.
The location where the bedbugs were found is known to be the gap between wooden plywood floor mats in the sleeping room of the jjimjilbang. One bedbug was alive, and the rest were confirmed to be dead.
The authorities plan to issue a first warning to the jjimjilbang for violating the Public Management Act.
The owner of the jjimjilbang plans to continue disinfection work through a professional pest control company.
Mokpo City is checking other nearby businesses and jjimjilbangs to see if bedbugs are present. So far, no additional cases or reports of bedbugs have been found.
Bedbugs are flat, brown insects measuring 1 to 6 mm in length. They survive by feeding on blood and are found worldwide.
When bitten by bedbugs, rashes (red spots) and itching appear as early as 1 hour or as late as 14 days after the bite and last for 1 to 5 days. Generally, bites heal within 1 to 2 weeks without treatment, but the affected area should not be scratched.
