Daewon Pharmaceutical has initiated a voluntary recall of the antidiarrheal agent 'Potagel.' This is a preventive measure following the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's recall order issued on the 22nd for certain Potagel products.
Daewon Pharmaceutical stated on the 28th, "Since the 24th, we have been conducting a voluntary recall of some Potagel products as a preventive measure," adding, "The voluntary recall targets products with manufacturing numbers adjacent to those subject to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's recall order."
Earlier, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety ordered a recall on the 22nd due to the detection of microorganisms exceeding the standard limits in Daewon Pharmaceutical's antidiarrheal agent 'Potagel Suspension,' citing quality nonconformity (exceeding microbial limits). The recall targets products with the manufacturing number '23084,' with an expiration date of July 13, 2026. The Ministry requested that retailers, pharmacies, and medical institutions holding the recalled medicines immediately stop sales and return the products to the company.
Potagel Suspension, an antidiarrheal agent in stick pouch form, is an over-the-counter drug used to relieve adult stomach and duodenal pain, acute and chronic diarrhea, and acute diarrhea in children aged 24 months and older.
A Daewon Pharmaceutical representative said, "We are currently investigating the detailed circumstances surrounding the recall order."
