The prosecution has demanded a life sentence for a man in his 30s accused of murdering his father and hiding the body.
On the 28th at around 10:20 a.m., the Seoul Northern District Court Criminal Division 11 (Chief Judge Ban Jeong-mo) held a sentencing hearing for Kim (30), who is charged with parricide and concealment of a corpse, and the prosecution requested a life sentence for Kim. Additionally, they requested 10 years of electronic monitoring and 5 years of probation.
Kim was prosecuted for stabbing his father (70) multiple times with a kitchen knife at their home in Myeonmok-dong, Jungnang-gu, Seoul, on May 29, and hiding the body in the basement level 2 water tank of the apartment. Investigations revealed that Kim, who had been resentful of his father's nagging, committed the crime while his mother was away from home.
The prosecution judged that Kim had premeditated the crime based on the fact that he committed the act while his mother was away, purchased blue tape to cover the apartment CCTV in advance, and the results of integrated psychological analysis including brain waves and behavior.
Kim was immediately arrested at his apartment on the 5th floor after police responded to a resident's report of bloodstains that appeared to have been dragged to the underground parking lot.
In his final defense, Kim's lawyer pleaded for leniency, stating, "At the time of the crime, Kim committed the act due to mental stress," and "Kim's mental state corresponds to autism spectrum disorder, and this disorder could have been one of the factors that prevented him from controlling the thought of killing the victim."
After about a month of psychological evaluation, it was confirmed that Kim has autism spectrum disorder and is a person with diminished mental capacity who requires continuous psychiatric treatment.
The sentencing hearing for Kim will be held at 10 a.m. on the 22nd of next month.
