TBS requested a temporary postponement of the enforcement, stating that if the ordinance preventing it from receiving funding from the Seoul Metropolitan Government is implemented as scheduled next year, it will face an existential crisis.
On the 27th, TBS stated in a press release, "If the 'Ordinance on the Abolition of the Seoul Metropolitan Media Foundation TBS Establishment and Operation Ordinance' takes effect on January 1st next year, we will no longer receive budget support from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, putting us at risk of extinction."
They continued, "We want to be reborn as a private broadcaster before it is too late, but we need at least some time for efficient organizational restructuring and preparation for privatization," and emphasized, "We earnestly request the Seoul Metropolitan Government and members of the Seoul Metropolitan Council to temporarily postpone the enforcement of the support abolition ordinance."
Meanwhile, 30 members of the Democratic Party in the Seoul Metropolitan Council recently jointly proposed an ordinance to postpone the abolition of TBS support from the originally scheduled January 1, next year, to July 1, 2026.
TBS plans to reorganize its structure and implement voluntary retirement in response to the cessation of support from the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Additionally, to achieve self-reliance, it plans to rationally reorganize the organization and boldly liquidate budgets and projects with low priority.
