Fulfilling Campaign Promises Together with the Residents
Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, held the '2023 Citizens' Jury 1st Meeting' on the 24th to inspect and evaluate the fulfillment of the pledges made by the Cheongsong-gun governor during the 8th term of the elected administration.
The Citizens' Jury was composed of 28 Cheongsong residents, selected through a random draw based on population proportions by region, gender, and age, followed by a final telephone interview.
The Citizens' Jury system is a direct citizen participation program to monitor the status of pledge fulfillment. Since the 7th term of the elected administration, Cheongsong-gun has systematically managed pledge projects through the deliberations and recommendations of the Citizens' Jury.
The jury will review the appropriateness of pledge implementation plans that require adjustments over the course of a month and derive improvement measures to resolve discrepancies between pledges and execution.
Governor Yoon Kyung-hee stated, "With the active participation of last year's Citizens' Jury, we established pledge implementation plans and finalized 73 pledge projects for the 8th term. To prevent empty pledges, we will reflect the opinions of Cheongsong residents in pledge fulfillment and open the future of Cheongsong-gun together with the citizens."
The first meeting of the jury, held in the 1st conference room of Cheongsong-gun Office, included manifesto education, basic lectures for the jury, and subgroup formation. At the second meeting on December 1, explanations by responsible officials on four pledge adjustment agenda items and six pledge evaluation agenda items will be followed by a Q&A session with the jury. At the third meeting on December 15, the jury will give the final approval on the appropriateness of pledge adjustments through a full vote, and submit recommendations based on the pledge fulfillment evaluation to Cheongsong-gun.
Cheongsong-gun plans to review the final recommendations derived from the operation of the Citizens' Jury by the pledge project departments and publish the jury's recommendations on the Cheongsong-gun website by February 2024 to disclose them to the citizens.
