Busan Office of Education, Full Effort to Prevent Bedbugs in Schools

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has launched an all-out effort to prevent the occurrence of bedbugs in schools. Bedbugs were also found in Busan on the 20th.

On the 27th, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it will focus all efforts on blocking the spread of bedbugs by forming a school bedbug prevention task force, strengthening inspections, and supporting pest control.

On the 27th at 8:50 a.m., Superintendent Ha Yun-su personally visited Dongnae High School, which operates a dormitory, to inspect areas at risk of bedbug occurrence and gather on-site opinions to support bedbug prevention.

Since the 8th, the Busan Office of Education has distributed a ‘Bedbug Information Collection’ booklet to enable schools at all levels to inspect and prevent bedbugs on their own, and is monitoring whether bedbugs have occurred. They have shortened the disinfection and pest control cycles for school facilities and guided the washing and disinfection of bedding suspected to harbor bedbugs.

They have posted bedbug prevention card news on the city education office and schools’ websites, as well as the Damoa app, and are also promoting bedbug prevention by uploading the latest edition of the bedbug information booklet from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on the city education office’s website.

As soon as bedbugs were found in a private home in Saha District on the 20th, the Busan Office of Education quickly formed a joint inspection team consisting of health officials and supervisors and completed inspections of bedbug prevention and management at all dormitory-operating schools.

On the morning of the 24th, an emergency countermeasure meeting on bedbug prevention was held with the participation of department heads of the city education office, senior officials, heads of education support offices, affiliated institutions, and public libraries. At this meeting, inspection items for bedbug prevention at schools and institutions and measures for bedbug pest control support were prepared.

To respond quickly and organically to bedbug prevention, a ‘Bedbug Prevention and Management Task Force’ was formed, and inspections will be strengthened not only for dormitory-operating schools but also for health rooms, after-school care rooms, duty rooms, and school transportation vehicles at all levels of schools.

Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “Our education office has been working hard to prevent bedbugs even before they were found in Busan. From now on, we will strengthen on-site inspections and expand support so that students can attend school with peace of mind, concentrating all administrative power of our education office.”
