Boseong-gun Increases Support for Cataract Surgery for Those Aged 65 and Over

Health Insurance Median Income Standard Raised from 120% to 150%

Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it has significantly expanded the eligibility for cataract surgery cost support for seniors aged 65 and older, a project initiated as a pledge during the 7th local government administration.

Starting from September this year, Boseong-gun raised the eligibility criteria for cataract surgery cost support from 120% to 150% of the median income based on the National Health Insurance premium for seniors aged 65 or older residing in Boseong-gun, allowing more elderly residents to benefit.

To apply, applicants must obtain a cataract diagnosis certificate from a hospital or clinic before surgery, prepare the required documents, and visit the public health center to submit their application.

After verification and consultation at the health center, surgery costs will be supported up to 250,000 KRW per eye for one eye, and up to 500,000 KRW for two eyes, paid directly to the hospital or clinic.

Additionally, through agreements with two local ophthalmology clinics, the county supports early detection, early treatment, and post-operative care for cataracts, actively working to prevent blindness among the elderly.

Kim Cheol-woo, the governor of Boseong-gun, stated, “We have expanded support so that seniors can regain their vision in old age and see the world more clearly.” He added, “We will build a comprehensive elderly welfare system to create a Boseong where there are no worries in old age.”

Meanwhile, since 2019, Boseong-gun has supported a total of 738 individuals and 1,282 eyes with cataract surgery costs amounting to approximately 294 million KRW over five years, receiving great positive feedback.
