The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office will hold the 4th quarter Integrated Environmental Management Public-Private Council at 2 p.m. on the 29th at the Ulsan Exhibition & Convention Center, attended by integrated permit sites from three metropolitan cities and provinces in the jurisdiction (Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam).

The Nakdong River Office stated that as the number of integrated permit sites under its jurisdiction continues to increase and efficient post-management of sites emitting large amounts of environmental pollutants is necessary, the council is being held to establish a compliance management system based on mutual communication.

As of the end of October, there are 168 integrated permit sites in the jurisdiction, and this number is expected to increase to about 280 by 2024.

The council aims to discuss issues felt by operators on-site together to enhance the applicability of a voluntary integrated environmental management system.

The council is composed of the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office, Korea Environment Corporation (environmental professional reviewers), and environmental managers of integrated permit sites.

This 4th quarter public-private council will target 12 sites engaged in petroleum refined product manufacturing and basic chemical substance manufacturing, and will cover ▲ presentation on the current status of site post-management ▲ guidance on key contents of Nakdong River Office integrated permit post-management ▲ guidance on permit changes and change notifications ▲ discussion of site requests ▲ and information on environmental regulation innovation achievements.

The council plans to enhance the effectiveness of its operation by utilizing the space for updates on council progress and system changes, as well as Q&A sessions.

Integrated environmental management applies to Type 1 and Type 2 sites where annual air pollutant emissions exceed 20 tons or daily wastewater discharge exceeds 700㎥.

Director Choi Jong-won said, “We will strive to contribute to reducing environmental pollution such as fine dust through active communication with large integrated permit sites in the jurisdiction and to improve the environmental management level of companies.”
